Screenprints 40’s – 50’s
Francis was interested in people, the city and in everyday life. He sat in on a court hearings to produce His Lordship Taking Down Evidence, recorded ordinary daily rituals of bus travel Number 31 Bus and returned time and time again to his beloved theme of the city St Pauls. His prints, in many ways, can be seen as the artist’s visual diary. His first experimental print After The Storm 1949, is believed to be the first artistic screenprint made in England, it was done straight on to the screen from memory and t took 3 months and 32 printings. His prints are in national collections of V & A Museum, British Museum in the Department of Prints and Drawings, international and private collections.
